Hello Satchmo,

1. The initial comment asked for favorite string quartets. I answered.
2. To understand "what I am talking about", you should go deeper in music analysis
3. I am "he", my picture is not clear enough ?
4. What I know, what I did ? please see my background here.

But by the way, I did'nt hear anything about your opinion on Mozart's quartet writing... please participate. Telling us dissonances were existing before mozart is an evidence but does not contribute to progress in our discussion. I wowuld say that Harmonic dissonances in mozart's string quartet is not only a little bit "more than normal", but a real revolution within classical period.

regards

1. Actually....Geryon asked for recommendations he could study....and you just repeated what was already posted 10 months ago in post #5.

2. You having an avatar means I am supposed to assume it's you? Nothing personal....but posting a link doesn't mean it's really you, either.

3. I never asked what you did. I just don't think you have been clear about what you're saying. It could be something lost in translation, so to speak.

4. I am pretty sure I have been participating a great deal in the conversation. I also didn't say it was just a "little bit" more than normal. So, at least quote me correctly. Also, no one is doubting Mozart was a Musical Genuis. That's just like like saying H2O is water. It's stating the obvious. There were a few hundred compositions before it that showed that, already.

Edit....I notice you edited out the part about it being a sign of Mozart's genius, but I am leaving in my response to that.

P.S. If that really is you....you really should get rid of the crossed arms thing which considering how much you do it in the videos I found....it must be normal for you. Among other things it's a sign of insecurity. I have yet to meet any teacher/instructor/someone in business/politician worth a damn or worth taking seriously who talked with their arms crossed....never mind the way you're doing it. I keep expecting you to blink like Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeannie.

That's just some friendly advice.

P.P.S. You might also want to list which conservatories you actually went too. Would they be Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur Musique or The Lyon Conservatory of Music and Dance in Lyon.... and Conservatoire de Musique in Geneva. If so, why not just say so? As well as just what "universities of music" in Lyon and Rochester you were supposed to have been given "numerous awards".

Why be so ambiguous about your curriculum vitae?

Who uses the term "harmonic dissonance" in this way? Walter Berry? Walter Piston? Heinrich Schenker? Percy Goetschius? Joseph Schillinger?

There are dissonances that occur linearly in a melody and those that occur simultaneously in harmony. Mozart wasn't the first to sound two or more "dissonant" pitches simultaneously.

To tell someone to "go deeper into music analysis" is kind of a cop out.

I stopped working on music for several months around the time I made this thread so I didn't check much of the suggestions out at the time. I'll post my thoughts when I listen to more.
