I found Charlie Parker At Storyville and Miles Davis' Bitches Brew on vinyl yesterday, which I immediately snatched up. As soon as I get home I will be listening to those for a while. Not quite jazz, but I also got Soul Jazz Records' compilation Saturday Night Fish Fry to jive with.
Also, Hashim - Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) for those in the know. What up. One of the more exciting finds I've had in a while.

For anyone interested in the already mentioned Gerald Wilson Mosaic box set. A peon has discovered that Deepdiscount.com has it listed at for $69.68 and when you combine in the Free Shipping it's a savings of around $20 than if buy it from Mosaic.

How many they have in stock, is another story.

Anthony Braxton/ William Parker/ Milford Graves - Beyond Quantum
This will place pretty high on the Best of 2008 list. William Parker is actually interesting without DA MAN....as in, Hamid Drake being involved.
YO!

Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Now this is awesome, fiery stuff. I swear I've heard some of this music before - does anyone know if it's been used in a film or something?

1. One of the essential recordings.
YO!
2. Anyone? As in, I going to make this a general question so not hurt the rest of your feelings, but I really mean
HELP, SATCHMO!
No, it hasn't been used in anything commercially....but several of DA MINGUS' works have been used....
You can check a 14 minute compilation on the Official site.

Thanks for your post, Satchmo. I've listened to it a few more times now, and I've definitely heard something very like the first track before, but not exactly the same. Muted-wah trumpets vamping on two chords a tone apart while a baritone sax rips it up over the top. I'll find it one day.
I'm getting into this right now:
Duke Ellington - Live At The Blue Note
Sound quality isn't perfect, but it was 1959 after all. Strong stuff all round. I haven't heard a Duke Ellington album I don't like yet - every single one I've got is an absolute belter.

1. I personally haven't heard it used for anything and I would think the official site would mention it if it was used.
2. You're really making a common mistake by those of your age about the recording quality in the past being inferior to todays.
3. There is no such thing as a bad recording involving DA DUKE!
