Buying Sampler Soon
This is probably the wrong place to ask this but ill give it a shot anyways. I plan on get a sampler soon for jamming with friends and messing around with. I really like the way that Animal Collective use samplers to add add layers of sound to their other instruments and i was thinking about getting a Roland SP like Geologist uses. Ive been back and forth between an SP and a Korg ESX-1 or EMX-1. Ive decided that if I'm going to drop a bunch of bucks Ill get a Korg but i think that it might be overkill for what I'm trying to do with it. So should i get the much cheaper SP 404 or 505 or go big and get an Electribe? Also other recommendations are welcome.

I will give you the same advise I give anyone buying any instrument for the first time.
I am personally a believer that the first instrument should be something you don't have to worry about destroying when your learning/experimenting with what it can and can't do.
Get the cheapest thing which will get what you want done.

Yo.... I have the older sp 303 and I really like it. It's easy to use. Animal Collective uses them extensively and they were a favorite of J Dilla. The thing has lots of cool effects and is easy to manipulate on the spot. I'm gonna be using mine live for the first time for a show in august and just pulled it out to fool around with. The newer models I'm guessing have better memory and more effects. That being said I saw several bands play with the electribe recently and they sounded great. Post back with your choice as I'm curious to hear about what you think of your purchase.

Right now im leaning toward a 505 on eBay for under $200. I think the electribe is def overkill, a friend of mine has had one for over a year and he still has no idea what to do with it besides making simple rap beats. The auction ends in 24 hours so ill update if i win it.

I don't know yet... I just got invited to play in my friends band for a show in late august. Probably Davis or San Fran. I'll make sure to send you an invite.
