How does one deal with a "complete recordings" or "greatest hits" disc if its in chronological order?

It's kind of a gimme after bringing up chronology, but there are a grand total of 8 albums from beyond 1970. I know he said something about specializing in classic jazz, but come on...

With the exception of the Clifford Brown & Max Roach album (not to discredit the quality of that album, of course), there are no Max Roach albums (Abbey Lincoln's "That's Him" (which I'll admit I'm unfamiliar with) over Freedom Now! Suite?), and like Roivas said, no Rahsaan. Other than the Miles Plugged Nickel Highlights disc, Wayne Shorter does not appear on any of these albums, that I can tell (he may be a sideman on some that I just don't know). The Jackie McLean choice is kinda random.

There's a general lack of male vocalists, with the exception of Louis Armstrong and the scattered tracks you'll find on the big band box sets, as well as Nat King Cole, who may or may not be included more for his pop career, I dunno.

now this is why this grasshoppa is going places....thats if he doesnt force satchmo into having to send the shadows....which with him of late is a post or pm away it seems.

1. i dont do greatest hits.

2. its really a pain the backside for the complete recordings. box sets are put in a differnt section 'at this point is were grasshoppa seba would ask about its size' and are in chronological order based on the first recording.

3. it becomes even more of a pain in backside when you have the original records in multiple formats 'as in, 78, 33, 45, lp, cd' which make up the complete recordings. you have to make sure to tell the peon which you them to bring up.

Furthermore:

None of Cannonball Adderley or Herbie Hancock's recordings as a leader. There're a bunch more excluded major musicians, but I think that point has been made.

The vibraphone as an instrument seems to be neglected, only recordings on the list that I know of to actually feature it prominently are Out to Lunch and Django. Same goes for guitar...only albums with guitarists as leaders are the Django and Charlie Christian boxes and Wes's Smokin' at the Half Note. At least they nailed the big three.

If I remember correctly, Wayne Shorter was on 'Bitches Brew'.

I don't think the grasshoppas have ever been in the hot-seat like this before.
