It's pretty weird chronological order, though...instead of just putting all the recordings chronologically, when it gets to the first included album by an artist, it then lists all of that artists' included albums chronologically, before going on to the next chronological album after the first one.
It's kind of a gimme after bringing up chronology, but there are a grand total of
8 albums from beyond 1970. I know he said something about specializing in classic jazz, but come on...
With the exception of the Clifford Brown & Max Roach album (not to discredit the quality of that album, of course), there are no Max Roach albums (Abbey Lincoln's "That's Him" (which I'll admit I'm unfamiliar with) over Freedom Now! Suite?), and like Roivas said, no Rahsaan. Other than the Miles Plugged Nickel Highlights disc, Wayne Shorter does not appear on any of these albums, that I can tell (he may be a sideman on some that I just don't know). The Jackie McLean choice is kinda random.
There's a general lack of male vocalists, with the exception of Louis Armstrong and the scattered tracks you'll find on the big band box sets, as well as Nat King Cole, who may or may not be included more for his pop career, I dunno.
