I'm sure my bro does the same thing.

Think of it as an artificial set of limitations that tests your music knowledge.

I don't think he's into punk at the moment.

Mostly, I want newer bands that he might not find on his own.

So far I've gotten him:

Mastodon (which Mom says he likes a lot)
Opeth

F-word issues. Good try, though.

Where have you gone, Grasshoppa Geryon,
Our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you.
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson.
Grasshoppa Geryon has left and gone away,
Hey hey hey.

Forget back when you were 13....when you were 15 you would have broken off 1000 bands with one finger by this point....while breaking off some sort of smack to the older Philistines and Satchmo on way to the Rogue Agent list.

I can only imagine what happens to you once you get to the Ancient age of 21. It might take you a month to break off one band.

erf!

Just skirt the issue and go instrumental.

Karma To Burn (in lieu of kyuss)
Tarantula Hawk
Pelican
etc

Alternately, Cynic's lyrics could almost pass for Christian if you play it right...so, by that I mean definitely get him "Focus".

Beyond that, anything Kayo Dot should work. I'd say Maudlin of the Well also but they have some lyrical moments that might be "questionable".

Also, Ruins would be a non-issue as well...add "Tzomborgha" to that.

Similarly, Guapo.

Alamaailman Vasarat can pass as a metal band occasionally.
