What the hell is emo, anyway?

From what I get, emo's first big thing was Elvis Costello. He kind of laid this fuck the system but I still do pop-type music groundwork for people to go from. And then there was all that new wave bs alongside punk. Emo still wasn't invented, but some more fuck yu guys were like lets call our band Rites of Spring or Sunny Day Real Estate and somebody was like wow, theyre emotional.
Then there was Weezer and the Get-Up kids and blah blah. Then eventually Dashboard Confessional, whose singer was from some other emo like band, and Cursive, and all these bands I can still get down with.

I think that is half of our current emo-style. It kinda runs concurrent with The Cure kids, and goth rock. That is how goths started which still makes me laugh. Of course, it started back in England with Black Sabbath, but I mean, i dont know. But either way, the Cure did the eyeliner thing like Boy George.

And heres where I get confused. Out of someone's ass pops Hawthorne Heights and Panic at the Disco? And a shitload of other band's with stupid names taken from POEtry or some really good book the members havent read who half scream and half whine. And in poured the Boy George-Cure spawned emo-kids?

What the hell did emo mean, and what the hell is this shit right now?

why does it matter, do alternative, or indie mean anything? if you like emo then listen to it. it's the term associated to pop music marketed to depressed teens of the day. emos are to this generation what goths were to mine. if you don't like it then why complain about it? the crap on tv and radio is exactly that - crap.

panbient I'm amazed at your patience.

Shit, it kind of seems to me like emo is being phased out. Could radiomute really outlive a trend?

i don't see any reason why RM can't outlive a few trends. it's just in a lull right now.
