I'd have to wonder on that one. I don't know which emo lineage it would apply to. They were kind of new wave, though. I think Depeche Mode might be more for the running, along with The Cure, but they are both kind of goth, Depeche being industrial. Im just confused. I don't know this family tree.

But why the hell is flock of seagulls so catchy?

Actually, that iconic look started with Veronica Lake back in the 40's. Think of the Jennifer Aniston craze back in the 90's and multiply by 100.

Lake was for a while the biggest (she was actually vertically challenged at 4' 11") actresses of the early to mid 40's.

So many copied it that it lead to injuries in the factories during WWII. The military actually asked her to cut it and she did. And like a female Sampson her career nose dived.

She went from making around $60,000 a week in today's money (and keep in mind I'm talking the 40's) to ended up becoming a barmaid, alcoholism, schizophrenic and dying pretty much a couple dollars away from living on the street.

While her films were all critical and box office success she became so forgotten that her ashes were found in a antique store around 2004....31-years after her death.

She was the inspiration for Veronica in the Archie comic strip and with Rita Hayworth inspired Jessica Rabbit. If you have seen L.A. Confidential....she also is an inspiration in Bassinger's look. She was supposed to be call girl who is made out to look like Veronica Lake.

P.S.
Not sure WTF? that has to do with emo?....but you know Satchmo and knowledge dropping. It can come out of the blue and on pretty much any subject.

WTF? I blame Canada!
