As per usual, WKCR IS having their 24 hour birthday broadcast.

So get your Mingus groove on, BABY!

Well guys, I wish I had remembered the date myself (I was trying to listen to my friend's spot on our school radio station, which wasn't working and iTunes just bumped me down to WKCR instead and BOOM! there's Mingus playing!), but today was Charles Mingus' 87th birthday. For those who are on the ball, there's still a half hour left of the birthday broadcast, although right now they're playing a couple tracks from Mingus Ah Um which I'm sure most of us around here have and therefore would be better suited to just playing some music from our own collections. At least there's three and a half hours left on this coast!

Happy Birthday, Mingus!

When one listens to Mingus's music, it sounds like it is ageless / timeless. As if it was composed yesterday.
