No homo my flow is hard as an erection/So that's why it's fuck the world wit protection/Pay attention to the lecture/my words carry life like a stretcher

'carry life like a stretcher' is pretty good I think.

I'm the best rapper alive/homeboy got mind that a map couldn't find/homeboy got a nine got a cop couldn't find/I be getting to it, even if I was blind/scary movie, they scream when i rhyme/I'm "a king, you can ask stephen if im lying/I'm a prince, too demanding like my mom/too bold too cold like west salon

The last couplet is an amazing bit of association, on par with Cam'ron's best, such as, "Observe, cock, and spray/ We hit you from a block away/ Drinking saki on a Suzuki in Osaka Bay". On this same track, "My Daddy", Weezy begins by, in the course of 4 couplets, referencing Nas, Busta Rhymes, namedrops Diplomats, and on and on. Around the end of the track, he abandons using pop-culture references like Prince to build his rhymes, breaking into invented sounds:

beef, yes, chest, feet/tagged, bagged, blood, sheets/yikes, yeeks, great scott storch/can I borrow your yacht?

If you still doubt his abilities, check him out on this Jay-Z remix:

I don't think you can dismiss Lil Wayne completely and call yourself a fan of contemporary rap. Even if his chart hits haven't proven themselves so far to be the ideal vehicle for his inventiveness, it's not like there are a lot of other rappers willing to do things like play a guitar on a video, or wear a biker jacket, or sing (even if its thru an autotuner!) And if you wanna sit in the olden days, and set the borders between today and the 'golden age', fine, but that's a very limited view to adopt. So the way I see it, when you have an artist with as much creativity and popular presence as Lil Wayne, you have to recognize.

Ok here are actually good lyrics by a real lyricist not a performer (slug of atmosphere)

"Stay gold Pony Boy, stay true outspoken
Make a record Mr. Gangster and get 'em all open
The theories, the stories, the truths, the myths
Its all therapy, on top of turntable riffs"

"Showed you the meaning of the artery he keeps on the end of his sleeve
As he pretends he can breathe
Lend me a piece of your superiority
I feel alone on this mission, I'm wishin' there was more of me
A pair of me, apparently I'm a parasite caught inside a paradox
A paradise, a parody, the hair police have got what you need
For you to get over me and move on with Godspeed
I'd let it all go and break eggs for a livin'
If I wasn't so conditioned to just take what I'm given
Get it, got it, catch it, caught it, and lost it"

"if it makes you feel better
go ahead, make me feel small
i know what you're up to
baby build the wall
you think you've seen it all
and life has no surprises
until you call out my name and return you get silence "

"then there was this one night when I took the time
to examine a napkin in a chicago hotel room
I wasn't alone it was a night after a show
space was full
energy was consumed
there was a girl emphasis on the "L"
she was noticin the detail as well
and the two of us found something with each other
previously undiscovered
hell is full of lovers
and the daylight is bright always makes me squint
but it feels like magic when it touches my face
suffocate myself
overwhelm myself
and let the sunrays abandon me floatin through space
and she still wonders why I'm so insecure
she giggles because I sleep with a body pillow
intentions are never nothing short of pure
but theres a price to pay when you try to live a little
and attractive as that napkin ever could've been
my how it unfolded hold it to the wind
try now to be a rock but she's caught under the skin
ex-lover and a best friend
just like the rest of them
then there was this one night
I stopped to watch someone bite the tip of a cigarette
to hold it inbetween her lips
never met nobody like her please brace yourself
danger danger
this might hurt
the playground feels a lot different when the sun's out
she wasn't messin round she came in with her guns out
screamin bout the ocean
anybody wanna go with me
never knew punk rock could be so pretty
now catch your breath and then catch the ball
and sit by the phone so you can catch the call
write catchy one-liners on the bathroom stall
here I go wouldn't you know
still learnin to crawl
i've always dug the way you love the way
your tattoos intimidate men
I guess I'm one of them
standin right next to you from way over here
ex-lover and a best friend
(ex-lover and a best friend)
then there was this one night I noticed a tree
that stood by itself about an hour up north
and I can picture her holding onto the limb
wearin a summer dress and a grin
swingin back and forth
talkin bout the breeze and how it easy it is
to leave all the worries in the backseat
teach me please I need the abilities to live
silly me I tried to measure it by what I can give
but she didn't need anything
just a pair of ears some strong fingers
and someone to share the tears
read the fear feeling it inadequate
now lets make-believe that I can handle it
and I still get to talk to you every now and then
definition of "over" doesn't have to be the end
it's good to see you grow girl
shake my hand
that's all I want from my ex-lover and my best friend
I got your back
don't ever fucking question that
I got your back
always have
I still got your back"

"I want to follow the footprints across my lovers stomach, I want to call out her name before I plumit. I wish I had a map to step around the land mines, avoid the beasts that hide under her bed that breath the bad times. I want to find these so called treasures, the pleasures, the trinkets, the neverending weekends. Aknowledging that Im just a peice of the sequence but seeing these different footprints have me needing to show my weakness. Timelines timezones I cross them with my eyes close, memorize the landmarks and learn the cycles, the weather patterns, how the seasons effect the east and the west of each region, learn the cycles. Forget the fact that many trails have been tracked, maybe its a plus that theres a path. If this was unchartted land Id have to be a smarter man willing to travel the farthest to unravel the harvest."-abusing the rib

"And to the child who writes about me in the 7th street bathroom, thax for buying our tapes, and i hope your first born never learns how to read"-7th street entry

"The problem with sex is respect calibration, the orgasm serves as your validation. The problem with love is that it lives in a book now. The problem with drugs is there to fucking good now. The problem with logic is theres to many loopholes, and the problem with truth is that its usually brutal. The problem is I cant trust most of what I see, so fuck it the all the problems of life must be me"

I would have to agree with you on Wu-Tang being one of the best!

It could be argued if the terms "greatness" and "rap" can be related in any way, however I like the Fat Boys and Tone Loc. And Zolaman's freestyles!
