Music Documentaries

There seem to be quite a few music documentaries floating around these day that totally missed me upon their initial release.

I just saw American Hardcore last night and found it to be quite good.

Anyone have some suggestions of recently released or classic music documentaries?

I found this list on Wiki.

There a recent documentary called Gettin' the Blues about Blues in the United Kingdom. Looks good:

Some of my favourite music documentaries:

Straight, No Chaser about the great Thelonious Monk.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVj57fQBU6o

A great documentary about one of the greatest and most tormented guitarists and song writers of a generation, and one of my alltime favourite musicians; Man of the World: The Peter Green Story:

The seven part Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues is a great collection and is monumental because it has attempted to spread an educational program in schools about the history of Blues and produced several compilation albums, a CD boxset, and a fine book of essays about the Blues.

A Film About Jimi Hendrix is great and first spawned this classic piece of footage:

I thought this was only slightly better than the Abomination.

aka Ken Burns/Wynton Marsalis' Gumbo

I saw this one over the weekend. Very tasty. I have seen a number of the others listed, but not all. I guess a little catch up is in order.

Anyone see Neil Young: Heart of Gold? I haven't and was wondering what the vibe was on it?

I too didn't care for that Burns/Marsalis' thing to much. Some of the it was cool and filled in some of the knowledge gaps I have, but the Marsalis' skew still left me a little ill.

I bought 'Lomax The Songhunter' a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed that DvD. I could recommend it to anyone! Especially if you know Alan Lomax and the work he did

Haven't seen Gumbo but I remember you dumping on it previously.
I really like most of the The Blues documentaries. Feel Like Going Home and Soul of a Man in particular, and I'm sure that has something to do with them being Scorsese and Wenders films. Eastwood missed the mark with Piano Blues I'll admit, but the footage shown was classic.
