Forgotten Blues
With our brief discussion about Cow Cow Davenport and how the master is mostly forgotten these days in the 'listening to now' thread, I thought to make a thread dedicated to such others: the forgotten Bluesmen and women.
Now, anyone deeply into Blues will likely know many of the forgotten artists, but I'm thinking more of spreading the word to those who have less deep interest in Blues but would like to expand their knowledge, or anyone simply interested in music history. The artists may have been famous or well-known in their lifetimes, but they must now be mostly unknown to the wider audience.
So, I'll start.
Julius Daniels was a great Bluesman of the acoustic era. His biggest tune was probably 'Ninety-Nine Year Blues,' an unknown classic.

If you really want to get technical outside of a handful of them along the likes of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, etc... the vast majority are forgotten/unknown to the vast majority of listeners.

True, and I know everyone here knows the John Lee Hookers and the Charlie Pattons, and given the music knowledge of a lot of the people here, I would guess that most would also know the Junior Parkers and the Pine Top Perkinses, and most of our Blues talks are about them - and there's nothing wrong with that! However, I'm thinking of spreading word of the likes of the Little Joe Blues and the Luke Jordans.
*Sorry, I accidently edited your post instead of replying!

Running amok with the mod powers already. Should've known this'd be a power struggle from day one.

Just in case you didn't know, unless a post is first edited out so it's empty before being deleted a moderator can still read a post which has been deleted.

Getting back to the theme of this thread...I'll start with a well known folk revival artist during the 60's, but what wasn't known was that Josh White was a great bluesman in the Piedmont style circa 1930 to 1940...his solo style was impressive...the lp Josh White Blues Singer is a FINE collection from this period

Mm, yes, indeed. White had a raw but tender style. Smooth voice.
One of my favourite songs, and a great performance with a young Judy White:

This is worthwhile as well:

Papa George Lightfoot
One of the most celebrated Bluesmen during the Revival, but ultimately unable to keep up with the fame of other Revivalists like Son House, Skip James, and Mississippi John Hurt.
Papa Lightfoot was a Mississippi saxophonist whose '69 album Natchez Trace is one of my favourite releases from the Revival.
