Blues: What's in your player?
In celebration of the long awaited return of the Blues board, I'm gonna spill my mojo bag and rub my black cat bone! And I ain't talkin' 'bout no monkey junk.
I'm making it my mission to spread the gospel of the Blues to Radio Mute.
To start, every board has a 'listening to' thread, so here it is for the Blues.
Currently, I'm digging into some Little Walter. I think Marion "Little Walter" Jacobs recorded the definitive version of 'Mean Old World.'
Walter being inducted into the RRHOF just last week.

Charles "Cow Cow" Davenport - Complete Recorded Works Vol. 1
He's pretty much forgotten these days (except with Satchmo and possibly the Grasshoppa)....but if you're down with Boogie Woogie....and I know the Grasshoppa happens to be....you will enjoy him.
Magic Sam - West Side Soul
Magic Sam's first recording is one of the great electric Blues recordings, BABY!

Cow Cow's 'Cow Cow Blues' is one of the sweetest tones I've ever heard from a piano. It's a damn shame that few have done anything to spread his name.

Excuse me for the offtopic question, but where can I make a Nacken post? After all, this is the RnB board here.

Well, I'm sure we could talk about R&B and how new R&B is no longer rhythm n' blues - or as Rancho and I came to call it a couple years back, Nacken (though I don't remember why) - just not on this particular thread. This thread is for the BLUES!

Kokomo Arnold - Complete Recorded Works, Vol. 1 (1930-1935)
Pretty much everyone I post in this thread can go in the other redundant thread....sorry Grasshoppa. So, just imagine I am posting these over there, as well.

Barbecue Bob - Complete Recorded Works: Vol. 1 (1927 - 1928)
At one time Barbecue Bob's first single ( Barbecue Blues) made him the top selling musician in Columbia's than history. He would be a big influence on Blind Willie McTell. Snoozehand covered one of his songs.
That picture is one of only two known pictures of him. He was only 29 when he died from TB & Pneumonia.
Today, most people probably think it's the name of a restaurant.
