There is even footage of DA MAN wiping his hand with a handkerchief after shaking Goebbels hand after a performance of DA KING's 9th.
As you can see in this video....a who's who of Nazis were in the audience since it was the eve of Hitler's birthday performance.

You will also notice DA MAN's distinctive style of conducting. He might be the first headbanger, BABY!

He's occasionally great, although having the Berlin Philharmonic, I'm sure, helps.
I like his early recordings.

Antonin Dvorak/Symphonies 7, 8 and 9; Overture Carnaval; Scherzo Capriccioso/Carlo Maria Giulini with the London Philharmonic Orchestra
Not a top of the line performance as I understand it, but as far as my inexperienced ears go I couldn't see it making much difference at this time.

It depends on if you're downloading them or buying them? If it's the first it's not an issue, but if you're buying them why spend money on something which isn't considered one of the best or best version of any classical work?

1. It was cheap, not as cheap as it gets but $11 for a two-disc set was pretty good.
2. I was at Amoeba and decided to buy some classical; didn't happen to remember which performances of those pieces had been recommended here. Could've asked the employees if they had any knowledge to drop on that particular recording, though.
3. It does say "EMI classic performance" on the case, and while I'm not one to put all my trust in a CD case's description of its own quality, I figured it can't be that bad. It got three stars in the Penguin guide, so unless that's a very poorly written guide it isn't like it's bottom of the barrel.
4. While it would obviously better to go about this by downloading, at some point I need to get some experience listening to the best recordings versus lesser recordings, because as I said before at the moment I really can't tell the difference, unless I were to listen to them literally right alongside each other.
