Just fucking songs. Covers, originals, live jams, whatever. I'm operating with a very loose qualifier for 'song.' I'll settle for anything that falls within some sort of family resemblance. If it's a favorite for particular reason, note why. Don't bother trying to out-technicality me, or I'll start posting in entirely first order logic.
also: Medeski, Martin & Wood - Whatever Happened to Gus?
Excellent groove, and I especially dig the monologue. Had forgotten how much I dig MMW while I was getting into the classic stuff, but they still hold their own. And throw a mean live show.

If you don't like "jazz snob talk" than go play on the My Little Pony (TM) message board where they make you feel all special about yourself.

that's not what I said at all, so there's no reason to be rude. This is ridiculous, I posted what I thought was an extremely simple topic, and I've spent most of the thread trying to clarify myself. Does it really have to be this complex?

Just get Miles Smiles and save some energy.
Footprints is one of my favorite compositions.

I don't know. For me, it's an exercise in futility to single out ten jazz pieces I like the most. There's too much shit out there and I'm not the sentimental type.
Have you gone through a Rahsaan Roland Kirk phase?

Now, this is funny. You break out in first order, I break off many-sorted and you know if anyone can Grasshoppa Seba will drop Infinitary.
aka
I will get back to you with a list of some sort.

I don't know, jazzfromhell's showing a lot of promise these days.

Yeah, I have some Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and it's excellent, of course, but I haven't listened to it in great detail yet.

A fine threat, but I see your infinitary and raise you modalities. Ah, the glories of philosophical trash-talking.

Reminds me of PTL (not as bad, of course)
This is like one of those "help me expand my horizons, but in a narrowly defined way predetermined by me."
Since you've been going through a Tarkovsky phase, allow me to quote a line from Solaris:
Quote:

We don’t want to conquer space at all. We want to expand Earth endlessly. We don’t want other worlds; we want a mirror

That's only a simulacrum of Solaris
Incidentally, if you want to hear the best bassline in modern music, you listen to Moanin' by Charles Mingus.
