I Hate Guitarmart

I don't think I've express my disdain for Guitar Center in a while, so here you go. Feel free to join in on the beat down.

I hate Guitar Center!

It took me 4 hours and 2 trips to pick up a case a friend of mine ordered. Because it wasn't the purchaser picking the case up they tried twice to raise the price on me. I finally had to have my friend call them and straighten the whole thing out. Then they tried it again and when I refused to pay they switched it back to the agreed upon price.

So, let me recap.

I hate Guitar Center!

Translation:

I wanted to break off a little Starless....but they told me that only Free Bird, Sweet Home Alabama, The South's Gonna Do It Again, or Gimmie Three Steps were allowed.

I asked, WTF? not even some Stairway? And this good ol' boy looks at me and goes....this be DA SOUTH and asked if I was a Northerner or Revenuer? As the crowd started to come my way....I quickly started whistling Dixie and stated that Robert E. Lee should be on Mt. Rushmore and I was naming my first born after him.

You know, your comment does make me half want to go down there and knock out a few attempts at Bailey/Frith/Chadbourne covers.

In all honesty, they'd probably just assume you didn't know how to play and give you some weird looks. A few guys might try and give you some condescending advice.

As a guy who works in a music store, I can honestly say you don't give people who play Sweet Home Alabama or Stairway to Heaven badly weird looks. You take their money because your contract says they "asked for it"

This is why Guitar Center is a shithole:

I was in Guitar Center buying an electric guitar (solely because, their immense budget allows for breadth of selection that none of my awesomer local dealerships can afford me), and, while I was waiting for it to be rung up, I went into the pricey section of the acoustic room to play some extra-awesome guitars that I don't normally get to.

The very first thing I see is this old Gibson archtop. It's from the 30s or something, back from before the logo changed. The kind of guitar that had to have a pickup installed later, after they were invented. These guitars are, obviously, totally cool, and you feel cool playing them. But the second I take down the guitar and begin to play, I notice that the neck has been snapped clean off of the body, it looks like, more than once. The guitar is, therefore, worthless. The intonation can never be fixed, because the neck is always wiggling, and the action is terrible.

A salesperson walks by, and I tell him that this is a very cool guitar, though he should know that it's broken. "Oh, I know," he says, "it's just a wall decoration."

A second salesperson walks by, and I say the same thing. "Yeah," he says, "the damage is irreparable. It's just there to look cool."

Then Rusty (this should have been my first clue), the man selling me my jaguar walks by, and when I note to him the damage to the guitar that I'm holding, he says "Oh yeah dude! She plays beautifully! I could fix that no problem for you, and you could take it home tomorrow! It's an excellent instrument."

Guitar Center makes buying instruments like buying a fucking car.

i have nightmares wherein i have something i need to get, and only the most ignorant, drugged out employee at gc is available to help, and he's the only person in the world who can sell me this item. one of the managers gave me his employee discount for stuff when i bought a pedal out of the trunk of his car, tho, and that was awfully nice.
