The folk music and sea shanties, and some of the modern takes on them, of my home Newfoundland makes me kick up my heels, but on the otherhand it can make me nostalgic and homesick.
There's nothing like a
fire in the kitchen, a Newfoundland party where everyone crams together in the kitchen - or the shed - someone brings a guitar or two, another brings an accordian, another a bodhrán, someone a fiddle, and someone else an ugly stick, and we tear 'er up with lots of pints, rum and a scoff.
Here's a video of my buddies back at the first Northern Bay Sands Beach Bash (the video is marked wrong - it's actually Neal O'Leary singing, and Tony O'Leary is on accordian). I was there and, be Jeezus, I drowned a few pints that night. Neal's now the manager of the beach.

Here's another beauty (note that some of the shots are not Newfoundland, but listen to hte lyrics and you'll figure it out).

I grew up on this music, with my grandfather and uncles playing a fire in the kitchen most every weekend. Great times.
