I apologize for not being more active on the forum and for asking for opinions, and consequently your time, on an interest of mine seems a bit unfair but I do really appreciate the input and can't think of a better panel of experts.

I'd really love some advice from anyone willing to give an opinion about a nice setup for my room. I will need to buy just about all of the components sans the speakers which are a pair of Bang & Olfusen's.

The title of this thread is misleading since I do not care about the video aspect at all. I assume at some point I'd like a television but for now my question is confined to audio.

With those points out of the way, and my minimal knowledge of an "audiophile" setup or these types of electronics in general, I see the list of components I'd need as:

a preamp

amp

cd player (although I may just get a dvd player at this point)

Now to make things a bit more complicated I think I will also need:

a receiver

turntable (although Satchmo and jazzfromhell have given me some good ideas and I think I will go with the goldring model).

and a method for streaming my music from the computer to the speakers. Apple TV seems to provide this but my lack of a TV seems like it might be a bit of an obstacle.

Any input would be appreciated. I think the most I could see myself on spending for any one component would be around $300-400. Even if you do not have much knowledge on the subject a good directory for learning more would also be great as google searches do not yield very dependable sources.

Thanks!
