Albums one must have
I've recently been getting more and more into metal, listening to stuff like Children of Bodom, Motörhead, Iron Maiden and hating everything nu metal. But I don't know that many metal bands yet, so would like to hear your oh so professional opinion on what bands are worth listening to and what albums are most important.
Go!

I'm in no way 'professional', but I'm widely recognized here as the premium listener and expert on 80s mainstream rock/metal, which is also referred to as Glam Metal, Sleaze Rock or (by detractors) Hair Metal.
I'll try to provide you with a metal album list not too mainstream sounding:
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Megadeth - Peace sells, but who's buying
W.A.S.P. - The headless children
Love/Hate - Blackout in the red room
L7 - Bricks are heavy
Accept - Staying a life
Dokken - Beast from the East
Kix - Blow my fuse
Ozzy Osbourne - No more tears
Mötley Crüe - Too fast for love
Guns n' Roses - Appetite for destruction

Back, I see. Just curious....but did you check in any of the older threads?
Any particular sub-genre of Metal or Metal in general?

WTF? No Poison? I have noticed you haven't been giving them the love you once did in the past. If they haven't already they might impeach you as President of the International Fan Club.

As I said, the list includes albums not too mainstream sounding, or as Tanjello might say, not too much cheesy corporate commercial cockrock.
Poison remain a great band, and Gluesniffer is encouraged to check them out, only I have a slight suspicion he won't like them. BTW You will have noticed I didn't recommend Bon Jovi, either.

Hmmm... lots of classic metal albums I could list, and quite a few newer ones, what kind of stuff are you looking for?

I don't really know that much about subgenres (doesn't every band pretend to have invented a new one?). I like different styles: stuff like Motörhead, Children of Bodom, Ronny James Dio. I suppose they belong to rather different subgenres.

Hmm, my similar thread in the punk section had much more success than this one, so far at least. Maybe someone could give examples of bands belonging to particular subgenres, or just mention any bands or albums he/she considers as being worthwile.
