EBow

No one seems to have any in stock around my area.

I had to special order it from Guitar Center.

I wonder what kind of weird noises I'll be able to make with it.

People at GC told me that only one guy makes them and that he has been on vacation.

It's going to take SIX MONTHS for me to get the thing.

I might be dead by then.

I have one (but can't find it). It's cool. Allows for super long sustain. Add some delay and reverb or a phaser = lots of fun. Good for adding textures...

i've always been curious about these but wouldn't you be able to just use a strong fridge magnet and just hold it close to the strings / pickup.

i've actually got a violin bow for trying crazy shit like that too hehe, the only problem is the rosin makes the strings really sticky so you have to watch where you rub the bow across the strings.

That'd be funny. Drop a c-note on an EBow and then find out your Geico fridge magnet does the trick.

I've never tried the violin bow thing. It must be impossible to get at the middle strings, being that they're laid out on a plane.

Yeah the bow is nice, but it does make the middle strings impossible to play individually. Use lots of reverb and delay if you want to get the Sigur Ros sound.

i remember a jimmy page article where he mentionned adjusting the height of the middle strings so they'd arc instead of remaining flat. wasn't so good for normal playing but made it easier for bowing. i tried it and found that it work to a limited extent. never really stuck with it though, was more of a novelty noise maker.

well i was at my local music store on saturday.

my little cousin was getting himself a joe strummer signature telecaster.

so while he's schmoozing with the clerk i notice a little brown box in one of the effect display cases with the word 'ebow' across the top hehehehe

had i not seen this thread and the mention of only one dude making them i would have probably moved on. instead i dropped cash and it's on the corner of my desk waiting for the next jam hehe.

The "one-dude" theory was told to me by the accessories department @ Guitar Center (two different stores). I've heard a lot of BS from employees of GC, so...

Nice job. I can't imagine not being able to find a good use for it on occasion.

But...why do I have to wait half-a-year for mine?

if it's any help the address on the side of the box is

heet sound productions
611 ducommun st
LA, CA 90012

might want to try contacting them directly for faster action.

Alright. Enough of this BS.

I ordered this thing 6 months ago and those GC stoners still don't have it.

Same stupid story about the guy going on vacation.

Musician's Friend has them in stock. Amazon.com has them in stock. Sam Ash has them in stock.

What a waste of my time.
