shitty deal man. last time i jammed with it i finally found a way to use it on the fly. not exactly flashy but my live method was just a shoelace taped around the ebow and strung around the strap peg at the base of my guitar. worked well enough to just swing it up for a quick squeal here and there but then the battery died and having to cut through the tape was just too much hassle at that point.

I went to Sam Ash and picked one up. I figured I might get the "latest model" or something if I waited, but screw that.
Only thing is, the Ebow increases the volume by, like, ten times.
This Friday I'm playing a show in a friend's band and I want to try it out.
So...on the Les Paul, I think I'm going to keep the neck p/u on, maybe, 2 and keep the bridge p/u at full volume for "regular playing" with the tone rolled off.
Of course, things that work in my living room don't always come together at a show.
I'll wear the top from my Kung Fu uniform. It has a bunch of little pockets going all the way up the torso.

nice hehe. i HIGHLY recommend using a volume pedal when using an ebow. both to control the overall level of your guitar and as an indirect way to control the intensity of the effect.

bummer man, they ernie ball models are a little pricey but have a great reputation. i usually go for the dirt cheap plastic units. they're incredibly handy and don't need a battery.

My Dad shared a class or two in highschool with this guy:

It's so balanced. Wonder if he's using a volume pedal or has an older model EBow.

i don't get the impression he's using a pedal (aside from the obvious delay) but he's not going from a pick to the ebow either. once you find the sweet spot over the neck pickup it's a lot easier to setup your guitar and amp to provide a decent sound. you can see from the alternate angle that he's using the device to control the intensity of the sound by pulling it away from the strings (looks likes he's bouncing it)
he also twiddles something when he switches to fingerstyle so he's doing something off camera to control his level. his pinky on the volume knob trick (around the 3:20 mark) works well for certain types of guitars but pulling it off with your foot is so much easier.

It's an instructional video so I don't understand why he's not showing us everything he's doing.
Nice to know that the chord arpeggio thing is easier to do than I thought.
Funny, if you hold it backwards and use it on the bridge pickup and pass it across the strings back and forth fairly fast, it sounds like a harmonica.

hmm haven't experimented with the bridge pickup. the included documentation recommends against it. i did try to get it working on my bass though, but it didn't produce anything.
