Zapped into MTV yesterday and saw them in a (supposedly) new(er) video. Borland (bemasked) back on the team (he had left the group for awhile; last thing I heard he returned two years ago or so) and Durst seems to have traded his red Yankees cap for a traditional blue one. Lots of distortion, lots of yelling around.
Are they really one of the better groups? Gee, that scene must be pretty fucked up then.

no.

the deftones, korn, fear factory, all an order of magnitude more awesome than limp bizkit. LB had too much 'i fucking swear a fucking lot because fucking swearing makes me fucking tough fuck yeah' action for my tastes. their cover of 'behind blue eyes' sounded alright on the radio i guess.

i think the real question is whether or not fred durst has come out of the emo-closet and started wearing eyeliner.

Cool a reply to the bizkit question

all the bands that were named were better than bizkit , but energy in their music is what got to me . listening to them on the way to work got me pumped up and feelin aggressive. and yes they did swear a lot .but as artists we should not believe in censorship of any kind or all music would be watered down and lifeless.there are better choices of language ,but sometimes ya got ta say what you're feelin. i'd hate to see what people think of Cold or hedPE
Listened to Numb with Linkin Park

Are Korn really that much better? Not that I cared much, but I can hardly tell the difference when hearing those bands. Fear Factory qualify as Nu Metal? Hm, I only know Demanufacture, but I always thought it was more like Industrial?

All that swearing and distortion and whatnot to me is only an attempt to cover up their lousy music. It's just hyped noise to me. And it's another proof that when forcefed long/often enough the audience is ultimately going to buy pretty much anything.

to me demanufacture was what 'new' or 'nu' metal should have been. it most definitely was metal but with enough twists to distinguish it from the rest of the metal from the previous generation. burton c. bell's range definitely helped them carve their own sound same with the lack of guitar solos to add to the overall intensity of their sound.

and it's not that korn was really good but they still sounded better than LB to me.

I think the first Nu Metal band was Biohazard. I remember a pal totally freaking out over them, I think it was a year or two before Demanufacture. Only then that style was called Crossover. However they didn't sell as many albums nor were they hip highschool teens.

depends on how you want to define nu-metal. biohazard definitely had the rap and metal action hybrid working. but if we want to get technical it all goes back to anthrax and public enemy back in '87

Cool Kand R Project answer

Let's remember Trust Co,The Downfall a great song that you never hear on the radio anymore. When i lived in Syracuse 4 years ago,i listened to Stabbing Westward,Sheila Divine,Oleander, and others . most of my friends were listening to hip hop and rap. when will people understand that that style of music was meant for the urban market not too sound prejudice:

IMO the term Nu Metal wasn't just a label for a certain type of music, but also a fashion thing. Korn and their Adidas clothing sure defined the looks of such bands, so did Durst's red Yankees cap. Not to forget that the guitarists have to bend down to the floor.

Not a fan of either PE or Anthrax. Aerosmith and Run DMC were cool though.
