Well thanks. But no. I like categorizing music b/c it lets me decide what genre I wish to choose from and what mood I might be in. Besides, I don't think categorizing is such a bad thing.

And sad and melancholy are somewhat the same thing, you just chose a bigger word than I did.

Categorizing music can ruin careers. I recall countless bands that have changed image and then flopped, or never caught on in the first place 'cos of the pidgeonholing critics like to do. Still, some definitions are needed I think. It's human nature to differentiate.
