Best Female Singers

To whom it may concern,
Please recommend 10-15 of the best female singers. I used to sing along to Faith Hill, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige CDs but need new stuff. I want to listen to someone with a powerful voice; lyrics, music and the beat are secondary.

Kindest regards,
Diana

Dear Stardust and boRa,
This is my first reply on this forum, so please bear with me. I'll think about Norah Jones and Lauren Hill. I have 3 of Sade's CDs, but I'm more of a belter or screamer like Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Linda Ronstadt, and Celine Dion--loud and proud.

Thanks and kindest regards,
Diana

Then the magical two of my favorite English strong (PoP) female singers:
Lisa Stanfield
& Dina Caroll
loud and proud,
excellent...

Dear Stardust,
Aretha Franklin can sing, play piano & write songs--she's talented. Right now, my favorite songwriters are Fleetwood Mac. I didn't listen to them when I was a child, but last month I bought their Greatest Hits & Stevie Nicks' Greatest; they sounded terrific. If I could write one decent song...

Kindest regards.

Dear boRa,
Yes, I will get Lisa Stanfield's music; she has a strong, yet controlled singing style.

Kindest regards.

P. S. Sorry, I should not have started this thread. I just saw "Who is the best vocalist?" in RM's FSS. That's all right, because now I'm searching for instructional videos & CD-ROMs for guitar, songwriting & keyboard.

Thanks.

vocal lesson seems to be what you need. and from there, you can develop your own vocal style. if you have your own style, it will make your style better. my 2 cents!

Dear Evilmatik,
If I could, I would take classes or 1-on-1 instruction, but I want to learn at home. Plus, I'm concerned that the teacher will force me to sing opera. No way. Maybe I'll get a CD-ROM or video for singers. Maria McKee of Lone Justice used to buy music once a week or once a month & practice, practice, practice. She did not receive any formal training, but she's one of my favorite singer-songwriters. That's how I learned to sing: I would listen to the radio & sing while driving and doing chores.

Kindest regards,
Diana
