2007 In Review

Discuss some of 2007's good (and bad)...

Below is a list of some 2007 albums I enjoyed. Because I recently started catching up, some ratings were determined after only 1-2 listens and are subject to change And yes, I realize I have LOTS more to listen to.

High On Fire - Death Is This Communion

Stoner Metal
Rating: 5 / 5

One of my favorite albums of the year. This review sums up my thoughts:

Quote:
If it was ever in question, the institution that is High On Fire is secured with this overwhelming release. And the sensation you get from listening to this record is one of being slowly ripped limb from limb... and loving every minute of it. This violent, primal connection between listener and High On Fire may be best summed up in Pike’s snarling lines from the title track, "Now you realize, Death Is This Communion."

Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today

Stoner / Doom Metal
Rating: 4 / 5

Wolves In The Throne Room - Two Hunters

Black Metal
Rating: N/A

Behemoth - The Apostasy

Black / Death Metal
Rating: 3 / 5

Exodus - The Atrocity Exhibition: Exibit A

Thrash Metal
Rating: 4 / 5

Entombed - Serpent Saints: The Ten Amendments

Death Metal
Rating: 3.5 / 5

Between the Buried and Me - Colors

Progressive Metalcore?
Rating: 4.5 / 5

Neurosis - Given to the Rising

Post-Metal
Rating: 4 / 5 (I haven't listened to it in a while though)

Marduk - Rom 5:12

Black Metal
Rating: 3.5 / 5

Warning - Watching from a Distance

Doom Metal
Rating: 4 / 5

My Need-2-Hear List:

Orange Goblin - Healing Through Fire
Clutch - From Beale Street to Oblivion
Therion - Gothic Kaballah
Nile - Ithyphallic
Primordial - To The Nameless Dead
Cephalic Carnage - Xenosapien
Mayhem - Ordo Ab Chao
Rotting Christ - Theogonia
Darkthrone - F.O.A.D.

I was a little disappointed with the following releases:

Obituary - Xecutioner's Return
Down - III: Over the Under
Dark Tranquillity - Fiction

Wolverine Blues and Clandestine are almost always in my playlists, which might be why I wanted more out of their latest.

It is a really good album, just don't expect this one to be like Dopethrone or Come My Fanatics.
