Ike Turner, R.I.P.

Ike Tunrer died earlier today. He was 76. He was a sorry excuse for a human, but he was still one of the Architects/Founders of Rock.

One of the tightest performances I ever saw was The Ike & Tina Turner Revue.

Just heard about it. That man could groove like a mother.

Thank you Mr Turner.

Be well.

I don't think many people realize just how influential he happened to be. His drug induced behavior and the Tina Turner bio have completely overshadowed everything else. I can only imagine what Hendrix and many others might have sounded like without Turner's innovating guitar playing....and he was a hell of a piano player as well.

Little Richard completely lifted Turner's intro of Rocket 88 for the intro of Good Golly Miss Molly.

P.S. He's also the one who discovered Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Junior Park, Little Milton among others....and I am pretty sure they have influenced a few in their own right.

Indeed. He may be the most underappreciated musician of the latter 20th century. You're right, few people realize that the man could groove - as I mentioned previously - like a mother.

Allmusic blog posted a rather nice piece on him, and they chose to be a tactful about his personal history.

May he R.I.P.
