Closer could mean one of two things, actually.

It could mean that something is nearing in distance, or it could mean the end of something. In the case of the Joy Division album, it's probably both.

Yes, I know. You forget one thing....the first language of many of the members or lurkers isn't English. Satchmo was using the opportunity to point out what I meant by both of the meanings could be used for that record.

While it may not be apparent at times....there is a reason/point for pretty much every Satchmo post.

Hey, I've heard that "closer" as a noun also is a slang for someone whose performance keeps exceptionally improving towards the end of a competition, eventually leading to that person's victory.

EDIT: Now I remember where I read it. Micheal Moore said in an interview that John Kerry was a closer. Nevermind.
