I never thought I'd find a reviewer who likes Counting Crows this much:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...0:0jfuxqw0ldae

By his account, this album may as well be the Sgt. Pepper of the '00s. Somehow, I don't believe him. Hyperbolize much?

Depending on if it is used as a noun or an adverb....Closer can mean two things.

As a noun, it's someone/something who closes or brings an end to something. As in adverb, it's the same as saying nearer.

In the regards to the Joy Division recording it can be taken both ways.

Thus ends our lesson of the day.

I told chrysanthem_m I'd post a review of the Liars concert I went to at Slim's two months ago (which he unfortunately could not make despite having tickets, screwed over by traffic). Especially considering I don't know the band's music very well, I can't remember the fine details of the concert all that well, so this is kind of spare, but I'll post the thoughts I have.

This was actually a really great concert. The only album I've heard by them (last year's ST) was good but not thrilling, I went to the concert in the first place because the album was good enough, tickets were cheap and chrysanthem_m gave it a strong recommendation. I'm really glad I went, because it was a really fun show. Not sure what exactly you'd categorize this band as, but I like it. Really dark, energetic music, with really well placed effects. Highly recommended live show, I only wish the set could've been longer, it was only a little over an hour.

The opening band, No Age, sounded like what Liars might've sounded like when their members were around 16 years old. Pretty dull, but I only saw the last two songs of their set, so maybe it was better before that.

In other news, I'm really, really excited for Boredoms on Tuesday.

This should be interesting.

Just noticed your new quote. I take it you have been reading Whitney Balliett, lately?

Yeah, I've been reading a lot out of his Collected Works: A Journal of Jazz on a regular basis since around November. The quote's a tribute to both him and Taylor, I really love his writing.

And any words of advice on a first Boredoms concert?

Try not to end up in Japan.

Otherwise enjoy yourself. It's not like you're going to be in the middle of a Mosh Pit.
