Satchmo only recently discovered them, himself. Although, I apparently had their recordings under some stack or another.
Their latest....Occasion is DA shiznit....2008, shiznit.

Their album Grandeur of Hair is great. One of my favorites from 2006. I'm gonna have to check this new one out if it's only half as good.

It may not have been in order.
In any case, I like it.

" I have no influences-I existed together with god and the piano before time began- and my piano playing is the direct result of the fact that my mind and the cosmic mind that sustains the universe are in harmony-so when I play I intercept electro magnetic frequencies directly from the mind of god and can convert them into lyrical phrases on the piano. If at any time it sounds like another pianist its because the universe is one organism and there is one underlining language field so what I articulate on piano can resemble what another part of the one cosmic brain would articulate on the piano."
Matthew Shipp
What a load of shit. I feel obligated to enjoy his work to a point as one of the handful of significant musicians from my neck of the woods, but that is just hilarious.

By the way, has anyone been able to connect to AllMusic for the past 2 or 3 days?

Oh yeah, I thought you guys might get a kick out of this. Last weekend my friends' band had a headlining position for a show at none other than 924 Gilman, but their drummer ended up going to Tahoe that weekend. So things ended up with me learning a 30-40 minute set of punk songs in two days, and playing at a punk venue for the first time, in a position that most people who play there never even reach. Show went really well given the circumstances, but I still get a laugh out of thinking of myself in such a situation.

Any bands in need of my service can talk to my people.
P.S. How long before temporary tattoos wear off? I have to wear long sleeves around my parents and they're getting suspicious.

Tattoos are the least of my worries. Let me tell you, with the emergency last minute piercings I had to receive, I'll be lucky not to contract tetanus. Although if it were a year and a half ago, it might've been punk enough to settle for clip on earrings. What a confusing culture.
