Sample-based artists

What artists/albums are you aware of that make use of sampling in the classic hip hop sense of lifting from commercial, copyrighted works towards creating new works?

I'm obviously a fan of Negativland and the stuff on Illegal Art...Realistic, Girl Talk, etc...and Josh got me listening to Cassetteboy a while back. Does anyone have any other artists to recommend?

Lots of Shitmat's stuff is along those lines, if you haven't already heard him. Killababylonkutz is a good example.

Listening on his website. Nice breakcore/drill 'n' bass sound. Good find.

some of the weirdest you'll find are these albums:

Mochipet 'Combat'
DJ Broken Window 'Parallel Universe #1'
DJ Broken Window 'Parallel Universe #2'
Kid 606 'The Action Packed Mentalist Brings you the Fucking Jams'
Doormouse 'Broken'

Shitmat's - "Hang the DJ" has a TON of samples in it.

...and to add, these are all sort of mixups from copywritten songs.

if you're looking for another artist like this, try

Jason Forrest's

'The Unrelenting Songs of the 1979 Post Disco Crash'
'Shamelessly Exciting'

A lot of Sickboy's work is also really sample heavy. Bohemian Crapsody being the perfect example.

yeah, he and Jason Forrest are pretty similar when it comes to stuff like that, but Sickboy tends to be the more uptempo type arranger these days.

Thanks, Josh. I've heard Kid 606 and Doormouse and have heard of Jason Forrest...Sickboy and the other two are new to me. I'll look into them. Thanks again.
