P.S. While that Dvorak Symphony makes my list....as you can see I don't put it as high up as apparently Grasshoppa Roivas is appearing to do.

Also....to give you an example of how a conductor effects a composition....there is no first-movement exposition repeated on that particular recording of it. Some conductors use the repeat and some don't.

While I enjoy that recording....I prefer recordings with the repeat, more.

I prefer these two in order. The first two are the same recordings but coupled with a different composition which is conducted by a different conductor....Dorati.

If you can find a used copy of this or one of the previous editions....it will at least help you deciding on which recordings to keep an eye for.

Well, my concern is, if you just list opus numbers, dude's going to end up with a bunch of Karajan recordings.

If he goes on a Fritz Reiner / Living Stereo kick...he won't get any lemons.

He's not exactly my favorite conductors, but what's with you and Karajan?

And remember, he's most likely downloading these....so, he has to take what he can find and download.

True.

He made some great recordings, don't get me wrong. Very inconsistently though...especially as he got older.

Back when record stores existed, he was always displayed prominently like he was the world's greatest conductor.

He can make a Beethoven symphony sound like a stale music appreciation course.

I guess I don't go in order of compositional importance. I recommended Dvorak's ninth because it's extrememly easy to listen to...same with Janacek's Sinfonietta (I'd recommend Simon Rattle's or Vaclav Neuman's).

Thank you very much guys for all your suggestions.
I'm sorry that I haven't been around here lately, I don't own a computer right now so it's a little difficult to come here.

I've been hearing a few symphonies, and I gotta say some of them are growing on me, a little hard at first because I'm not that used to classical music, but it's a little better now.

And yes, I'm downloading hehe, but I hope that on a near future I will be able to buy them.
