Favorite 5th Beatle

Been seeing a lot of Beatles films lately and was wondering, whose your favorite 5th Beatle? and why?

Stuart Sutcliffe? (really, the only 5th member they ever had)
Pete Best? (a living former member)
George Martin? (producer, only one there for most recordings)
Billy Preston? (he played with them, last performance)
Yoko Ono? (don't know why, my friend suggested it)

someone else?

Preston keeps getting called the 5th Beatle; however, the real 5th Beatle by far was George Martin.

Sutcliffe didn't even play.
Best was as good as Ringo....which isn't saying much.
Yoko - I got nothing.

Without Martin the Beatles would never been what they became.

Without hesitation - George Martin. His immense production skills made sure that the Beatles' records sounded like nothing else around at the time.

On Ringo: According to something I read in the rock press, some dedicated soul sat down and listened to every known studio take the Beatles did, and there were only eight occasions when takes broke down because Ringo had fluffed a beat. He's no Elvin Jones, but he's pretty solid, I reckon.

Did the account for the times Paul sat in for Ringo?

Well, I was going to come in here and say George Martin even though he was technically a producer, but I was soundly beat.

There were rumors floating around back in the day that The Beatles were going to invite Harry Nilsson into the band (really they were just based on the fact that Paul and John were both big fans of Harry's debut album). I would have loved to have seen what could have come from that.

Unfortunately the best we got was a Nilsson/Lennon collaboration called Pussy Cats in the 70s that didn't really amount to much. Neither of them were at the top of their game, especially Nilsson--he blew out his vocal cords and it's very apparent.

Does Ringo's huge honking nose count as a fifth Beatle?

Logically, Martin. Preferrably, Preston. C'mon, man, Billy Preston!

I'd rather dig a hole in the ground and stick my dick in it than bother with this thread.

Since you did bother, I guess we'll mark you down as a vote for Yoko.
