Tired of low-quality music

Ok, I'm done with iTunes 128-bit music. I bought a pair of Shure E4c's which sound great while playing CD's on my stereo, but not so much on my iPod with my iTunes music. I've decided that I am going to spend the money and do what I need to in order to get high-quality music. I've heard of a few different programs that decode the music or whatever, (Apple's "lossless", etc.) and am wondering what you all suggest.

I recently ordered an Alienware m9750 notebook and plan on using it for various gaming purposes obviously, but also want to use it for music purposes as well. I've been fooling around with a few digital audio workshops, including FL studio.. suggestions on what the best one for recreational purposes is?

Any other words of advice for someone switching from the typical ipod/itunes setup are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Suggestions for lossless software, if I should be downloading music or if using CD's and having them decoded upon burning would be significantly better. And DAW suggestions for a recreational user. Sorry if I've been unclear.

On the DAW end, I see these two mentioned a lot on this board.

Cubase
FL Studio

Well that's what you get for listening to Bon Jovi, Posion, etc...., etc...., yada, yada and living in the 80's.

Thanks - you’ve been a great audience. I’ll be here all week. Versuch das Kalbfleisch.

My next show is in 50-minutes.

If I was mean I could say that you're pretty predictable and that I saw this line coming but since I'm a good boy I'll just say that I saw this line coming.

Keep the ipod for convenience. For high quality, get a turntable and a shure cartridge and a pair of nice speakers. Any old amp and pre amp will do. Cartridge and speakers are all that matters.
