Considering their rankings in the music chart in the 90's, these are my top 5:

Karma Police - Radiohead
No Excuses - Alice in Chains
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
Heaven Beside You - Alice in Chains

_____________
Electro Amazing

I gave this considerable thought. I tried not to fall into the "well, this song did well so I'll list it", but instead tried to stick to my favorite songs of that era. Bear in mind I was in my mid-teens during the height of the era, so I'm not putting my name on this as a *recent* list.

In no particular order:
1) Alice in Chains -- Don't Follow
2) Smashing Pumpkins -- Muzzle
3) Better than Ezra -- Desperately Wanting
4) Moist -- Tangerine
5) The Offspring -- Genocide (this one is questionable: were The Offspring an "alternative" band?)

I won't give five, but I have to say something about Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Growing up in southern Oklahoma, with parents that only listened to soft rock like Air Supply, Chicago, or whatever crap Delilah peddles on her night show, hearing that song opened me up to the possibilities of music. It might be a cliche, but that song transformed music from background noise on car trips to an art worth investigating.
