Ok, see this doesn't work. Even with the T-R persona....no one is going to be believe a half-German penguin living in Germany wouldn't know.
First the lower amount of daily posts and now this....the signs of your getting older and losing a step or two are becoming more apparent.

As far as I can tell Mahler wasn't even German, he was Austrian. That's NOT the same!
Maybe I just got Roivas' post wrong. It read as he tried to label Bon Jovi as somehow insignificant, which I cannot accept. Seriously though, I've never heard of Gustav Mahler until today. And even though I will probably have forgotten about him by tomorrow, this goes to show that hangin' tough on RM pays off.

1. He was born in Moravia; so, that would make him Bohemian-Austrian.
2. I guess that means you don't know who Mozart would be since he was born in Salzburg or Hitler because he was from Braunau am Inn?
3. Austria was annexed by Das Vaterland for a bit.
4. The T-R "persona" may not have known Mahler (hell, he may never of heard of Austria before yesterday....and after finding a comrade in arms is now planning to Annex it before invading Belgium and France. ), but I really doubt you didn't know before yesterday.
5. If you never heard of Mahler how would you know he didn't far surpass Bon Jovi?

and now the Translation....
Das Vaterland, KLEINKIND!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand;
Blüh' im Glanze dieses Glückes,
Blühe, deutsches Vaterland.
Mein Führer, I can walk!

Thank you for helping me out with this guy Team Rancho, I do get your point, and I agree with you, even I'm not the biggest fan of Bon Jovi, I just like a few songs from him like It's my Life and Living on a Prayer.
Anyway, I gave a listen to Kind of Blue yesterday, and it's good, I'm really digging it. This album really has some sad parts in it, now I know why is called Kind of Blue. My favorite song is Flamenco Sketches right now, by that name I was expecting something different. I will be listening to it all this weekend and then I will go with A Love Supreme, if it's like Kind of Blue, I'm sure I will like that one too.

I heard he's quite a luminary in the world of hairstyling.

if you're digging on the mellow stuff i'd recommend stan getz and luiz bonfa - jazz samba encore! it's part of a series of albums with antonio carlos jobim (one of the albums is part of satchmo's list so it 'should' get some sort of approval )

I would pay particular attention to my comments about which version of ALS to get....that's if your buying it or the others....although, for all I know it might be something you can find on the internet.
To answer your last question....most of what you asked can be found in older threads in the Jazz forum of this board. If you just search using my handle you will find lots of previously dropped knowledge. Also, the suggestion post has more than enough to start you off with for the time being. From there, I can suggest more musicians/recordings that would be similar to those you liked. I am going to go back into that post and put the Avant/ Free Jazz ones in bold. You might want to delay those until you get your bearings a bit more.
Except for Free Improv....you will find at least one recording of everyone of the sub-genres I mentioned in the above post....as well as Fusion.
