I asked this question a while ago, but never got an answer...Seba said something or other about Kid A being a mediocre attempt to do what lesser-known electronic artists did way better. Being a fan of Kid A then (and now), I asked which electronic artists I should check out that supposedly do so much of a better job, considering I like Kid A a lot in the first place. So if anyone feels like answering that now or giving a link to some post/thread that does so, I'd appreciate it. I guess I should start looking into some IDM.

Neu, Faust, Can, Autechre....
Kid A is a result of hours and hours of listening to Krautrock. Those artists are better than Radiohead in my opinion, but I'm not saying Kid A is bad on any moment; and as a matter of fact I think it is a great album. But if you want to listen to the ones who created the sound, you should check them out if you haven't already.

Pumpkins vs Radiohead?
To answer the question
Radiohead. The only Pumpkins record I like is Siamese Dreams, the other ones bores the living hell out of me.

I've listened to certain recordings by all of those artists, and a lot by Can. I can certainly see the influence, but with the exception of Autechre, I wouldn't say that any of them sound exactly like the kind of music on Kid A. The impression I got from what Seba said at the time was that Kid A is like a direct rip off of other artists, and not done nearly as well. And like I said, while I certainly see the influence, it seems like there should be more direct, recent recordings that Radiohead was emulating, unless I misunderstood Seba. Thanks, though.

Well, I doubt that I meant they were directly ripping off a specific electronic artist in the vein of Godsmack to Alice in Chains or anything like that, although one can obviously hear a lot of influence from more ambient-leaning IDM ala early Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada, etc...if anything, they have more in common with the post-rock scene on that record than anything explicitly IDM or standard alt-rock -- Tortoise, Mogwai, etc...
...in any case, you should probably talk to Equinox about this one. Electronic music's been among my least purchased genres of the past few years - I've just been on a fairly consistent Jazz/Metal/Prog kick that I've found hard to get out of. Anyway, I think I remember him enjoying Kid A and he'd certainly be the one to point out any direct electronic references in Kid A.
