Leadbelly, Meat Puppets, The Pixies, Husker Du. All excellent in their own right. I know Kurt liked Neil Young and Crazy Horse, he quoted the song Hey Hey My My in his suicide note.

Oh yeah, I forgot he covered a Leadbelly song. I wonder where his sound mainly came from, or if it sprang out of pretty much nothing.

I just kinda thought Peace Frog and Smells Like Teen Spirit (the main riffs) sounded kind of alike, and he does the kind of shouting Jim Morrison does but a lot raspier.

And they both killed themselves.

I'd add that there's a whole helluvalot of The Melvins in their sound, too.

I heard that Kurt Cobain said that Smells Like Teen Spirit was a rip-off of Gouge Away from the Pixies. I can find similarities between both, but I don't know if that's really true.

Usually, people accuse the Smells Like Teen Spirit riff of being a rip off of More Than a Feeling by Boston.
