Another tip of the cap to Santana. His style just flows easily to my pleasure centers. I like when he takes notes from purity into distortion and back. The latin rhythms playing off against his 'rock' aesthetic are dynamite. I like the emotion on his sleeve, so to speak. I like his salt and pepper takes with Neal Schon and John Mclaughlin. His head is in the clouds and his feet are in the earth. Even his later stuff, as tame as it sometimes gets, still puts down some nice ax wielding. Guajira!

I love the early Fleetwood Mac / Peter Green music, too. I was saddened when I saw Peter Green live a few years ago (along with John Mayall). He seemed a shell of his former self and was not enjoying his appearance on stage. He had a Brian Wilson vibe about him. It was sort of like he was being trotted out for our amusement. Leave the guy, safe, at home to deal with his demons.

Eric Clapton or, as generic as this may seem to say, Jimmy Page.

Europa! from Moonflower. Kind of etheral for a rock forum, but it's some incredible guitar playin', man.

This guy:

He's not as technical as Vai, Van Halen and the rest, but he's a far more interesting soloist, I reckon. He's the only rock player other than Duane Allman who can play a ten-minute solo that not only doesn't bore me, but actually keeps me riveted.

Listen to him go.

Whoa! Didn't see that one comin'.

Zappa was cool for sure, and thumbs up on the Allman mention.

Considering Van Halen, I've always felt that he was a much more interesting and skilled rhythm guitarist than soloist.

I like me some Peter Green, by the way.
