Question Artists you dislike (to the surprise of others)

Maybe this will make an interesting thread...maybe not.

Are there any artists that you dislike that others assume you enjoy? Basically, musicians that you're somehow "expected" to listen to, given your tastes, but yet you still can't stand them?

My top three:

Genesis
Primus
Dream Theater

There may be one or two tracks from each that I can stand, but in general, I'm not a fan.

Anyone else?

Given my passionate love of the Blues, many think I do, but I dispise the work of SRV. Furthermore, I hate it when I mention the Blues and people respond with, "Oh, yeah, the Blues, yeah, man. Stevie Ray was awesome!"
*grrrrrrrrrrr

Dream Theatre (some of the crappiest music ever written)

Genesis (Phil Collins is an annoying drummer/vocalist)

Steely Dan (OMG, dude...like what? They're so complex. How can you like Mingus and not The Dan? )

Calexico

Andrew Bird

Vivaldi

Journey (maybe that's not so suprising)

SRV

Steve Vai (but he played with FZ, dude!)

Led Zeppelin. I think they are a overated, they have some really good songs, but in general they all sound almost the same to me.

Just to clarify....do you mean Phil Collins' era Genesis or the real Genesis as in the Peter Gabriel days.

Now if it's the real Genesis....not only I am surprised that Grasshoppa Prog Seba isn't a fan....I am sending

I admit to having problems with real Genesis, too.

I heard those squirrels can be quite nasty...

Definitely the Grateful Dead throws people off, especially when they see that I like numerous bands from the same time period. It seems it is automatically assumed that I should like them, but I could never stand more than small doses of them...and to a Dead Head, small doses means "only one or two consecutive bootlegs."

King Crimson, other than one album, not really a fan. Seeing as I am keen on late-60's early 70's progressive rock, this one definitely throws people off as well. KC is one of the the exalted groups and they probably do deserve it, but you will rarely hear them on Radio Seerix. Which is certainly an upgrade from the "never" you get for Dead fans

Otherwise I am more the person who likes something that surprises people, not the other way around.

For the record: fan of the first two SRV albums, and of course early Genesis and Primus (who lost me when they decided to half-ass Pork Soda).

I do not think Dream Theater is a stretch BTW. They are disliked almost universally by every genre in which they claim to have dipped their paintbrush.

I've said it before on here...I can't stand any Genesis...the '80s stuff goes without saying but their early work just defines for me the negative qualities that makes prog so unpopular...dare I say it, but I think they're one of the most genuinely pretentious bands ever...all grandiose fluff with nothing of real substance behind it...

...Genesis...

...and thanks to them we get all that shitty Neo-Prog like Marillion and IQ...bleh...

Actually, I think Genesis annoys me the most because they border on being good, but yet fall completely short for me...

...basically, they're not even bad enough for me to enjoy their music for laugh/cheese value...after all, there are plenty of worse prog bands that I enjoy...

Funny...this is my take on King Crimson, although they don't actually annoy me per se...
