Richard Cook, R.I.P.

Just heard that Richard Cook died from Cancer on August 26th. He was only 50.

He was the co-author along with Brian Morton of The Penguin Jazz Guide.

They exposed many musicians/recordings to fans who may not have known about them otherwise.

He also also was the author of....

Richard Cook's Jazz Encyclopedia
It's About That Time: Miles Davis on and Off Record
Blue Note Records: The Biography

And the editor of England's Jazz Review.

The spine of my Penguin Jazz Guide is worn to the bone. I really appreciate his efforts.
