kevin shields

just a heads up for other my bloody valentine fans. there's a new album out called 'death of patience' by kevin shields. seems appropriate, no?

the only problem is, it's NOT the same kevin shields who crafted one of the best albums of the 90s when he released 'loveless'. it's not even a guy or good music. hell, something that sounded like leftover MBV would have been better.

so what are other peoples take on this. should this eva aguila be allowed to parade herself and her music under the name kevin shields? i suppose legally she can but... why? why would you piss off potential fans by releasing an album under the name of one of the most influential artists in the genre you're in?

hmmm... mazzy star hasn't put anything out in a while, maybe i could start releasing albums under the name hope sandoval. you think my C tuned guitar and slightly off-key baritone wailings would win over new fans?

here's a link to what's pissing me off so much today.

Hope has released a solo-album, with the Warm Inventions though.

And MBV bores me to death, I must admit.

yeah i realize i was stretching a bit with the hope sandoval angle but how different would it be for me to do something along those lines.

i'll admit that i have to be in the right mood to listen to MBV but i still recognize the significance of the band. i just can't wrap myself around the idea of naming myself after another musician as an alias for my music. seriously. W.T.F.?

i understand that there's a new generation of kids out there who probably have never heard the name kevin shields but anyone who has isn't going to be thinking, hmmm maybe this isn't the guy from my bloody valentine...

yeah she's probably hoping it will increase the sales of her music, I guess

and seen that I like Mazzy Star and some other bands influenced by them, I can't see the appeal of MBV. Just fuzz, with some simple throwaway melodies underneath that you hardly can hear anyway. Same with Jesus & Mary Chain. Yet most people don't seem to agree with me...

i'm sure i've heard people use that description for nirvana before and 100% certain it's been tacked onto sonic youth as well. i guess it's up to the listener to determine whether or not they'll accept the fuzz as part of the overall melody or just write it off as a layer of noise.

We live on a fucked up world. It's easier to steal a song, change a few words some notes, and then tell it's yours. The same comes up with names. I'll grab a known name, just to make believe people I'm someone else and bingo, I'll have some secure sells. It happens everywhere, everyway, at anytime, and it can be anyone.
