Essential Dub Albums

A genre that has always been in and our of my awareness, I suppose I should check it out now.

Recommendations?

considering this is in the electronic forum, I'll stick to that aspect.

Basic Channel. The whole galaxy of related labels, projects, tinkerings, and postulations. Start with Basic Channel - BCD and Rhythm And Sound's self titled. Burial Mix, however, is the most dubbed branch of the tree.

if you like Dub, check out this new phenomena called Dubstep and Grime. It seems as though everyone is trying it out and I CAN'T FUCKING TAKE IT ANYMORE.

Check out the following to get you started:

Augustus Pablo - King Tubby's Meets Rockers Uptown

King Tubby - In Fine Style (the best Tubby compilation around)

Lee 'Scratch' Perry - Dub Triptych (3 classic dub albums collected)

There's also this little beast:

Joe Gibbs - African Dub Chapter Two

Chapter Three is more famous, and is probably the one to check out first, but I couldn't resist sharing that awesome album cover.

7 years, I would not call that a new phenomena. I would probbaly call it a new phenomina about 6 or 7 years ago.

i should've said 'new trend' instead of 'new phenomena'. I know it's been around for awhile now, it just seems like all the IDM'ers and Drum n' Bass artists are switching to a more Dubstep/Grime sound and it makes me sick. Maybe i'm just partial to a type of sound, but I just can't get into it. Unlike IDM, most dubstep/grime sounds the same to me. That same distorted reverberation coming in every once in awhile...ugh, anyway.
