Lightbulb Comparison of The Beatles to Led Zeppelin

In this clip from 1970, Led Zeppelin had just been voted the top group from the readers of Melody Makers. The analysis of The Beatles and the coming of the "new" generation of music listeners is very interesting.

*I love when the guy plays a clip of a Led Zeppelin track and says "It's cool, it's groovy, it's number one!"*

I remember seeing that back in the day. Just shows you how much things have changed since then. A murder trial, kidnapped children discovered dead, but first the most important news of the day is Band B toppling Band A in a readers poll.

The best part was them continuously being calling The Led Zeppelin.

P.S. It also might be the first and last time Bing Crosby and The Ink Spots were mentioned in the same sentence or even discussion.

Three things about that piece:

1. Not only has The Cult of Personality not died the concept has become even bigger. The Anna Nicle Smith and Paris Hilton fiascos for example proves that.

2. In 1970 the Beatles sole release would be their very last one. The Phil Spector slapped together Let It Be. August 20th, 1969 would be the last time they were together in the same studio. January 3rd, 1970 would be the last time a new song was recorded. While they technically broke up when Lennon left Sept. 20th, 1969....it wasn't officially announced until April 10th, 1970. Let It Be would be released on May 8th, 1970. So there was some backlash over their breaking up and the way it happened. They also hadn't toured since August 29, 1966.

3. Zeppelin was coming off releasing their first 3 recordings in 22 months and were constantly touring....in 1970 alone they performed 79 times, which was actually slowing down for them....because in 1969 they performed 136 times.

I for one think "the" () Led Zeppelin were shiting on the Beatles more than a little and I found it very amusing.

Is it just me or, does Robert Plant have absolutly no range?

Hm, no mention of Willie Dixon. How unsurprising.

I think the Personality Cult thing mentioned here is rather ironic as I find Zeppelin to be by far the most nostalgic rock band ever. That is, Zep die hards tend to defend the band almost religiously, more than any other die hards I've ever come across. Is that not the cult of personality? I think it is.

Do they sound vengeful or cheerful?
