"Punk is just power chords"

Do you agree with that statement or not? If so why?

It wasnt a statement I ever said, it was something Ive seen numerous times.

I agree with it somewhat, but even if it is all power chords, it doesn't keep me from liking it.

You will find the so called "Power" Chords, Barre Chords and even Open Chords in Punk.

If you really want to generalize....you could say Rock is 4 chords and a cloud of dust.

I don't remember too many power chords in The Clash's music.

Should I Stay or Should I Go

Train in Vain

as in Open Chords.

Theres more punk bands though, like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols and other bands. And one of my friends said the Clash was only Punk for their first couple of albums or something like that. But thats his opinion anyway.

The Clash was just one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever!

They went beyond punk.

punks a lifestyle not an image, and we like similar music that relates to it i guess. then again i like wu tang and some avante garde and some jazz and some techno so im having a little identity crisis...oh wait.

you can go to the mall and take the image of punk as suburbanite teenagers buying hot topic clothes with their parents money and wearing sex pistols shirts, or you can look behind the mall at the kids dumpstering the practically perfect food hoping trains and seeing good shows living off jack shit trying to get drunk occasionally(unless youre edge).

punks a lifestyle. just like anarchy is a dream built around harmony and a support system of everybody working together for contentment, not centered around destroying everything and hating everybody because they're different or have jobs.

are you sure you know what anarchy means? sounds more like you're using it as a shield to cover up the same basic ideals that would get you called a hippie.
