I love King Crimson, but I have to pick Floyd. Like Msaislesix Floyd is the band that really got me into music and so I they hold a special place in my "top bands list". I would put Pink Floyd ahead of just about anyone, so if Bobby Fripp is reading this don't feel bad old fella, you are not bad they are just really good.

Like tanjello said, it is not that King Crimson is bad, it's that Pink Floyd is really good...

Pink Floyd covered a lot of ground (even though they often are just labeled a "space rock" band.

I created this thread and never bothered to answer it until now

For me it's really hard (if not impossible) for me to decide which one I prefer the most.
Maybe overall I would go with Pink Floyd (even with their terrible last phase); but if I had to choose between both bands a single album I would choose a King Crimson's one.

Here's an order of my favorite albums from both bands:

Larks' Tongues In Aspic
In The Court Of The Crimson King
Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
Animals
The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
In The Wake Of Poseidon
Meddle
Lizard
Red
Atom Heart Mother

I tend to not hold it against an artist if they have some poor material when the bulk of their songs are good or great. So I take the best of what they have and use that when I compare artists. Otherwise bands like the Stones, or McCartney solo, or many others who have produced a ton of bad material would never be ranked high. But, take their best material and it stacks up well against most others.

So with Pink Floyd I dismiss a lot of their later material (although their are still some gems among the dirt).

I chose Pink Floyd. If I want to listen to music at home, Pink Floyd will get the nod before King Crimson. If I got a chance to see either band live, King Crimson would handily be my choice. Oh yeah.

King Crimson.

Tough choice to make, two of the greats.

I went with Crimson simply because of how great 'In The Court' is. It's my favorite album of all time (maybe tied with a few others), and it just finds me lost in its beauty every time I listen. The musician ship on that album is top notch and the sound on the recording is so dark and vintage. Nothing like a fat sack and a listen of 'In the court of the crimson king'.

Oh yeah, Pink Floyd, he's ok I guess.

Yeah between the two bands, they have so many great albums. It's a close call.
