in reply to kenneth's post...some bands/music that is "good" to your taste may not be "good" for other's. two people may both like "rock"/"alternative" but i dont think that would necessarily mean both would like the same stuff.

If it's on the radio and/or MTV style channels it's generally going to be mainstream corprate watered down rock/pop/rap/name a genre.

i was lacking a good example...
in my area, everytime i turn on the radio, "hey there delilah" by the plain white t's plays.

although, i find my music through my boyfriend and my sister, hehe.

well if you want to know about american music... i wouldnt look at anything current. if i were you I would check out people like the Byrds, The Mammas and the Pappas, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, janis joplin, marvin gaye, otis redding, the temptations, aretha franklyn. which is realy the foundation for great american music in my opinion, every artist today has somthing to owe to all of these musicians. Because without the music of this time piriod you wouldnt have my chemichal romance, or green day, or any of that crap on the radio
