Jazz vinyl

I don't buy cds. I only buy vinyl. In the realm of jazz, this is often inconvenient, as I often have to pass on remasters, new finds, box sets, etc. While I appreciate a remastering, the sound of jazz on vinyl, in spite or because of 50s mastering, is sublime. I know that Geoff collects jazz vinyl, though he appears to be mia. I was wondering if anyone else partakes in the dwindling art of record collecting, if so, what resources you know of, and lastly to generally spark a discussion on jazz records, wherever that may lead.

I usually avoid these collection type threads/questions....but,

Satchmo is down with Vinyl for any genre of music,

BABY!

Everything not recorded first for cd that I have on cd, I already had on vinyl.

It's only for convience and the alternate/bonus tracks (especially from those no longer among us and/or are no longer be able to record) and to save the vinyl's life. A great many of them are rare as hell if not almost non-existent, BABY!

Satchmo grew up in the age of Vinyl and I still have the very first 3 that I bought back in 1972.

P.S. For those amongst you who haven't been around long enough.....don't even bother asking how many!

I don't like the convenience of cds. I put in a cd, and there is no difference between that and listening to the mp3s. I've been collecting vinyl for years, but my collection is limited by finances. The only cd's I've bought in the last five years are cd only releases.

If you can't hear the difference between Mp3 and anything....I would suggest your having your hearing checked.

I have high quality mp3s. that wasn't the point. it's the experience of listening; playing a cd requires no more involvement with the music than playing mp3s, flac, wav, aiff, whatever the case may be.

I've collected vinyl records since I was seven years old. There's just no comparison between vinyl and compact disc; vinyl always wins out. I do have a special place in my heart for jazz albums, but my collection certainly isn't limited to that (it's predominantly rock and classical).

I go for an exact copy of the source sound wave whenever possible.

Since this is the most important thing to me:

Live ----> Vinyl ----> Tape ----> | CD ----> MP3

I like the little crackly sounds. I feel all warm and cozy.
