Why do people like Panic! at the disco?

This thread is probably immature sounding but I just can't understand why they have lots of fans when they can't even make good music. Most poppy people tend to only care about the singers voice and it's surprising they like panics singer because he sounds like a snowman is raping him.

So if anyone can give me any theories as to why they are even liked that would be good.

Some people just have taste like that. That or the desire to fit in to some stereotype. Pop culture is also obviously really limited musically so people often dont have much to choose from.

No one really likes them, they just pretend to like them because MTV says it's the cool thing to do.

Actually I'm going to be truthful here. I like Panic. And it's sincere because I don't boast about it, or talk about them too frequently with my friends. The lead singer can sing (In studio, sucks live). And they offer an alternative style in the pop rhelm, despite what people are willing ot believe. Regardless, I listen to panic for entertainment, not to bask in musical glory.

The reason a singer who can't sing to save their life when it's live sounds good on the recording, is because of all the manipulating the engineers are able to acommplish in a studio which they can't in a live situation.

For example, can't sing in the right pitch....no problem....auto-tune to the rescue.

Check out Billy Joel's butchering of Star Spangled Banner while they do a terrible job of trying to auto-tune it live.

In other words, if he sucks live, he sucks period.

I think the whole band sucks, but they're probably not even the worse thing being played on the radio.

I agree completely. The reason why he sounds so talented in studio is due to the extensive amounts of engineering done to his vocals. I remember hearing their performance of "I write sins not tragedies" on a music awards program, possibly the MTV music/movie awards. I wanted to cry.

I think I may have to start listening to some radio once in a while again (after a 7 year break), if for no other reason than to know the enemy.

I feel kind of stupid as I really have no idea who these bands are or what they play, so I can't even provide an informed critique/insult.

The only way I know of any new pop/rock bands these days is late night TV (Craig/Conan). I've heard Wolfmother and Fall Out Boy through this channel. Wolfmother I still enjoy a bit as a comedy act and Fall Out Boy wasn't quite as awful as I was expecting -- I'm not about to purchase an album, but I've heard far worse.

And, as indicated by the first line, I've never even heard of these Panic! people...

Using THE ULTIMATE HORROR in thier name is more than enough for Satchmo....the rest just adds to it.
