Panic at the disco is proof that mtv has ruined mainstream rock and roll as we knew it

The only way I know of any new pop/rock bands these days is late night TV (Craig/Conan). I've heard Wolfmother and Fall Out Boy through this channel. Wolfmother I still enjoy a bit as a comedy act and Fall Out Boy wasn't quite as awful as I was expecting -- I'm not about to purchase an album, but I've heard far worse.

And, as indicated by the first line, I've never even heard of these Panic! people...

The last time I tried that it didn't go so well...listened to an alt-rock station for a while one day until I realized that the only good song was an old Pumpkins tune, which I didn't need the radio to hear in the first place. You'll have to let me know how long you lasted

I just hate how the mainstream doesnt even think to look at musicians that could end up the next Beatles. Bands that no one knows because they probably make a living out of gigs. And dont get the attention they deserve.

When Panics debut album reached 13 on the US billboard top 200 I called Satan to ask if hell was frozen.

Do you mean no one will be talented like them, or as popular, or both?

the next beatles aren't happening because when you hear music it's gone in the air, you can never capture it again. someday more people will understand that sentiment and stop trying to be the next repeat of whatever was great and start speaking from their own voices. until then mainstream media isn't going to provide anything more than a product for sale.

the beatles reached their level of success because they understood the relation between music and human nature but they ALSO understood the relationship between music and commercial success and were capable of balancing both aspects within their craft. right now the best mtv has to offer generally only understands the latter.

Yeah thats true

I doubt they went into "the relation between music and human nature". I think they just had a sound that everyone liked and did their thing.

so what... voice manipulation.... im not trying to say its a good thing... if you want to throw that into the equation, some really good bands gets chucked... heck, chuck most of depeche mode, muse, tool, NIN just to name a few.

Reason people like them cos it doent crawl under your skin when you are driving to work... i think alot more poeple just dont mind them, than really like them.

The voice manipulation isn't what bothers me. What bothers me is that there are copying a shity, overly comerical band known as Fall Out Boy.

There is a major difference between using it as just another effect and using it to cover up the fact the singer can't sing to save his or her life....which they can't hide in a live situation.
