Hard to find my way around

I've recently started to be fascinated with electronic music. I can say that for once it's one of the genres that suits me and it is not just in my mood like a most of the other stuff I listen to. The thing is that I find it very hard to find my way around when you want to go deeper. There is so many artists, all with names I don't recognize and I really don't have time to check them all. Because of course there might be a lot of crap in between. It's funny because though it's a genre that offers a lot of artists to choose from, most of it is not really accessible. I went to the record store the other day and the electronic section was really really small, I'm sure there were less than 200 cds in that section and no recommendations. Like I said, when it comes to downloading though I am completely lost, so I'd like your recomendations, and possibly tips on how to find my way around. I know that electronic music also has a lot of sub-genres, but for the moment, I'd like to have a general picture. Though I can say that I have a problem with things that could fall in the techno category.

I like Lesbians on Ecstacy, Ladytron, Shiny Toy Guns, (some) Lords of Acid, Zorn, Prodigy... That's pretty much what I can think of right now (I'm not close to my collection) if you add some Trip Hop and Industrial bands as well. It's pretty basic and it barely touch to electronic music and I really want to go deeper in the genre, keeping the link with rock music (like Alice in Videoland and The Sounds, but the link doesn't have to be that obvious) at the same time and lyrics is something that's important too (there are some exceptions). There is this image though I could also describe to you and if you're good with putting music to moods. Someone on drugs under fluorescent lights (I just find that beautiful artistically.. say what you want i know I'm fucked up ).

That's what I'm talking about, so many names all at once and I don't know where to start.

ADDDIIIINNNNGGG Nnnnnnnn To XXXXXXXXxxxxxxxxxx (it'll make sense if you ever check out their adding insult to injury album)

i strongly suggest starting with their last album 'take me to your leader' and working your way backwards. the 2nd clip was the first single on the last disc. if you're into the ladytron style of mashing analog synths mashed with real drums and bass you should dig Add N to (X) quite a bit.

it seems you are more into the electroclash type stuff with vocals. Not a big fan of that, so I apologize if I can't help you there.

They're a guilty pleasure of mine...but if you like Lesbians on Ecstasy, you might like Mindless Self Induglence if you haven't heard of them before. They're not electronic per se but a fusion similar to LOE...except faster, and more...comedic for lack of a better word. Allmusic puts it as Punk/Industrial/Hip Hop. Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy and You'll Rebel to Anything are good albums to start with. They have a lot of EPs and live stuff as well if you really get into them.

By the way, if you're still using soulseek there's a lot of stuff I'd be happy to share if you want. My username is stil Whatever Happened to Vilene. Send me a message if you like, I have to put you on my list before you can access my files.
